Glen Barrett

About Me

My name is Glen Barrett and I run bfg.coaching, offering in person and online personal training.

I established bfg.coaching after a period in my own life where I had to be more sensible about how I trained and looked after myself. That experience informs the way I work with clients now. I take a considered, methodical approach to training and place a strong emphasis on sound programming, managable progression, and consistency over time.

My aim is to provide guidance and well structured programming for people who want to improve their strength, fitness and overall health without unnecessary fads, trends, or shortcuts.

My Story

Sport has always been in my blood. I was a professional cricketer and held Zimbabwe’s national pole vault record for eight years. I played some kind if sport every day from early childhood through to my early twenties, so sufficed to say sport was my life.

Later, I spent over two decades in corporate roles with large multinationals like Mars, Blackmores, Swisse and Circana dealing with retailers, including Safeway, Coles, Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse, while also managing customers like Coca-Cola, Kelloggs, and Nestle to name a few. On the surface, everything looked like it was okay, but behind the scenes, I was really struggling.

I’ve endured a spinal fusion, lumbar disc replacement, a hip replacement, multiple shoulder surgeries, and chronic ongoing pain. I’ve faced severe mental health challenges on multiple occasions. And more recently, I was diagnosed with ADHD and finally helped me understand why I am the way I am.

My Why

All of that taught me that it takes more than just a gym program to put yourself back together, so I aim to:

  • Give people direction with their training and personally keep them on track:

  • Be a safe place for everyone, and have them feeling strong and confident in the gym and comfortable being themselves

  • Provide a routine that suits them and helps with consistency

  • Be an empathetic coach who cares and makes it personal
